New Umbrella

In nearly six years of living in the San Francisco bay area, I had never owned an umbrella. I like the rain. I particularly like the rain here; when it rains, the temperature rises and it's actually quite pleasant. What isn't pleasant, however, is spending the day at work in wet jeans and water-logged shoes. My commute to work usually involves a lot of walking and, on a particularly stormy day, I arrived at the condition I've previously described. After recounting this, a friend took pity upon me and gave me his old (nearly nonfunctional, I might add) umbrella. This umbrella saw me through the next couple of weeks until I attempted to bring it to a concert and had to leave it at the door. So, umbrella-less again, I happily performed my commute without protection from the rain for a few more weeks. Until, that is, passing a display of umbrellas at Target. Upon seeing them hanging there, I felt pangs of guilt for so quickly and cold-heartedly abandoning the article of my friend's compassion (understandable as it was; I was seeing Dave Grohl, after all). Needless to say, I am now the proud owner of a brand new umbrella. Unfortunately it stopped raining by the time I got home from work today.
